Are 22 conversion kits good?
I have a 9mm glock on order. Was wondering do most of you here practice exclusively with the bigger round guns 9mm/40/45/etc, or do you use 22s for target practice?
I saw a kit, but not sure if its just better to practice with the 9mms. http://glockstore.com/pgroup_descrip...ry_id%3D349%26 |
Re: Are 22 conversion kits good?
9mm ammo is relatively cheap.

For the same price you can get a Ruger pistol or stainless 10/22.
I bought a mech tech upper for a 1911 and I'm still looking for a frame as I get tired of switching over the lower. I'd rather have separate 2 guns...personal preference |

As a former competitor who has fired numerous rounds - I will assure you that there is a difference, and that it somewhat defeats the purpose of practice to use lower powered rounds. Granted - if you want to work on somthing specific, such as sight picture, focusing on the front sight, trigger control, etc. there will be some benefit. Generally, you can practice those things about as well dry firing. However, it takes more grip, the gun recoils differently, you will hold the gun differently and hit differently with different powered rounds, and develop different habits. Whatever benefits/disadvantages there may be to practicing with lower powered rounds are probably well outweighed by the benefits of using full power for practice. |

Just fooling yourself because when you really really need your Glock it ain't gonna kick like a .22
Train with 9mm ammo. It is cheap enough. If you also want a .22 buy a .22  |
Re: Are 22 conversion kits good?
Thanks for the tips, folks. I'm going to stick with 9mm ammo for my target practice.

Get the conversion for the 'cool factor' only. If you want practicality from any other angle, especially survival purposes, buy a second weapon. |
Re: Are 22 conversion kits good?
I have that same kit. It is very picky about ammo, but other than that it is great. Also the slide is just a bit bigger than regular glock slides so you wont be able to practice from a draw. Which kind of sucks IMHO.
